Designer Destination: Belfast FASHIONWEEK

Hold on to your diamond encrusted beanies folks as it may be cold on the streets of Belfast but things are about to heat up on the fashion front as Belfast's West Coast Cooler FASHION WEEK launched January 20. Just in time to showcase the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 trends including "pastels, sport luxe and shimmer".

One of the aspects I particularly love regarding Belfast FASHIONWEEK is of course the creative, exciting and refreshing designs it showcases. Take New York for example where only the old survive with a select elite of the Fashion World pioneers allowed entrance. Making for a dull, repetitive showing of the same old labels. Where's the fun in that?

Belfast FASHIONWEEK however boasts the same daring nature of its London counterpart in showcasing local and upcoming talent unafraid to present something new and innovative in the process. Something Director Cathy Martin expresses, "Our exciting programme will include breath-taking catwalk shows featuring stunning models styled to perfection by the most fashion forward retailers and designers...On opening night we pass the catwalk gauntlet to our stunning regional designer boutiques, giving them the chance once again to wow audiences with their latest ranges."

The five jam packed days will also feature high-street brands with the likes of New Look, LK Bennett, Oasis and French Connection all strutting their stylish Spring/Summer looks on the catwalk. Whilst stunning pieces from design houses Armani, Calvin Klein and DKNY will also make an appearance via the OUTLET in Banbridge.

Sponsors include Righttights.co.uk, eyewear partner William Morris and of course the one and only West Coast Cooler. Sarah Harvey of West Coast Cooler on the eight year partnership with FASHIONWEEK stated, “The ideal choice for a night out with friends or a fun night at home, West Coast Cooler matches perfectly with the ethos of FASHIONWEEK, providing a chic and refreshing accessory to the style on the catwalk. And we are very much looking forward to seeing what’s on trend for Spring/Summer 2012."

Aren't we all. :)

Belfast FASHIONWEEK, now in its 8th year and 13th season, will run from March 14 until March 18 showcasing the best of both high-street and local designers on the Catwalks, a Kid's Fashion Seminar and a Style Sunday event featuring designer Una Rodden (dress main picture above). It was also the first consumer driven fashion week in the UK and Ireland with over 30,000 fashion lovers attending the shows since it launch in 2005.

For the full schedule check out the official website www.belfastfashionweek.com. Tickets priced at £15 including a complimentary goodie bag and a West Coast Cooler. Stay tuned to the Fly's Eye in the coming weeks for full coverage of Belfast Fashion Week and exclusive features with local designers.
