Tell It To The Fishes: A Short Film Review

Two men, one the Irish Comedian of Black Books fame Dylan Moran playing the down on his luck Finn and the other, Tudors’ star Gerard McSorely portraying Jack, find themselves on a beach, feet cased in cement faced with the dooming prospect of the incoming tide. Some Gillyweed, the magical Harry Potteresque herb that when eaten gives its user the ability to breathe underwater, would come in pretty handy right about now lads.

Sadly they can’t get their hands on a magical fictionally-existent herb on such short notice and so what follows is a rather hilarious exchange between the two gangsters and passers by as Finn tries to find a way out of his current situation complete with ten different emotional breakdowns whilst bickering with McSorely on who is to blame throughout.

Moral of the story? Don’t get involved in gang life, but if there’s no getting around it…always carry a compact blow torch or a Bat-signal. Or you know don’t let the passers by actually pass you by!

Tell It To the Fishes debuted at the Palm Springs Film festival in 2007 written and directed by William Sinclair who worked on crime/comedy drama The Invisibles. The short has gained a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from 67 users on IMDB. The 10 minute dark comedy was shot in Coleraine, Northern Ireland.

McSorely is set to star in Spielberg’s January 2012 Warhorse set in World War One about a boy whose horse is sold and sent to the trenches.
