Episode three of X-Factor US debuted in the UK last night searching stateside for the ultimate talent, but is the American incarnation anything to write home about?
The show stopped off in Chicago last night as the penultimate auditions began in the City called home by the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West and R Kelly as judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, LA Reid, Nicole Scherzinger and ousted UK fan-fav Cheryl Cole (for the last time) all returned in search of the next big star.
The Good: I adore LA Reid and need him as a father/mentor figure in my life asap! The man is so damn grounded, sophisticated and basically worthy of worship. One crucial element of the show is his character and drive to actually find talent as the US version focuses whole-heartedly on raw talent rather than the lame lacklusters featured heavily on this side of the pond.
The Bad: Paula Abdul. Or should that be Abdull since she is about as interesting as a highly medicated fox. The chemisty between the judges is nowhere near in comparison to the new UK line-up. As for eye candy Steve Jones...does he ever present the show or just stand beside the contestants family and friends with his arm around them?
The Nicole: Already in the firing line from the both American and British media slating her as a poor 'downgrade' replacement for Cheryl, former lead Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger certainly isn't making things easy for herself. This week finds the 'stop at nothing to be seen/heard/known' Nicole cause utter humiliation for one weak singer and refusal to put through another phenomenal vocalist leaves us bewildered on just what the hell she is playing at.
Come back when you have finally secured any real major solo success as a stand alone artist love. PCDs had the voice (Nicole/Mel), the moves (Kim, Ash, Jess), the electricity, the history and more importantly the X-Factor. Nicole just has the ego.
In the words of Christina Aguilera, 'must talk so big to make up for smaller things'. Yeah, Nic's album sales.
