12 Years: A Short Film Review

12 years can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. For the Sugababes it means four line-up changes. For the UK public it means a change in government, job security and a hard-shipped economy. For one animated female dog it means a complete waste of time, effort, energy and unnecessary sacrifices as her long standing relationship falls apart in front of her very eyes.

What am I talking about you ask? Bold, humorous and sophisticated animated short '12 Years' written and directed by German Daniel Nocke with a plot summary put simply like this, "For 12 years she ignored sneers and mockery and stood up for her relationship. But that was probably a mistake." Preach!

The Film debuted at the Berlinale in 2010 and was produced at Studio Film Bilder in Germany using a mixture of modelling, blendshapes and animation by Herrschmidt and what stunning animation it is capturing the very human essence of these two animals. One even resembles Woody Allen.

Animator Martin Schmidt stated, "Our goal for the animation was to reproduce the very subtle human expressions...It was a lot of fun."

The clip was originally shot in German with the English version the only available online variant. So far the short has amassed nearly half a million views on Youtube alone.

Take a look at Nocke's dazzling '12 Years' below.
