Hey Sugarsnacks! Welcome to another installment of Minx Mix Tape: an all girl digital dance party devoted to ladies past and present who are making noteworthy music for the masses. Let's get to the tape!
We're going to kick off this week's tape with a trip down memory lane--I discovered this band as a freshman in high school. A new friend offered me a ride home in her van we pet named, "The Doom Wagon" and as she turned the key, Kittie blasted me into a new musical dimension. "Can girls sing like that? Is this legal??"
Now we'll bring it down a notch with one of my favorite artists, Neko Case. Something about her velvety voice, the cut of her lyrics and the saddest steal guitar in the world just gets me every time. I've had the pleasure of seeing her twice and her live performances are just as haunting and brilliant as her records.
And to wrap up this week's dance party we'll time warp to be in the holy presence of the Godmother of Punk Rock, Patti Smith. This is one of my All Time Favorite Performances: The Old Grey Whistle test circa 1976. Here Patti tears it up with her epic Lyrical tirade, Horses.
Thanks for joining the party! Got a song you want to share? Leave a link in the comments!
