Selfridges Showcases Bright Young Things (Menswear)

Selfridges. The name alone invokes fear, prestige, power and possible bed wetting. Why? Because underneath all the glitz, glamor, Gucci and Givenchy are the strict rules one must adhere to upon entering Selfridges' dominating domain. (Also known as the police state).

Do not touch any ties on any inviting tables as they are all display only and if you wish to browse you MUST contact a member of staff...that or take your custom elsewhere. Once you make a break for it via the escalator and then attempt to take a few snapshots of the exciting and vibrant Bright Young Things designer collection on the Mensfloor...shit hits the fan. Security are on you like a bad smell, trying to take your camera, trying to make you delete a few harmless photos, refusing to let you speak to their Press Department without an appointment. Who died and made them Dubai?

However what happened between myself and Selfridges is in the past and I'm currently focusing my efforts on taking them down from the inside. In the meantime here's a little run down of the Bright Young Thing's Collection (the Brightest British talent of 2012) they are currently showcasing in their windows (can't stop me on the street bitch) and in store displays (:P I have my ways.)

First up is Shaun Sampson a San Diego designer with a passion for street style who took inspiration from his San Diego streets to create a men's line that was 'effortless, wearable and special'. A style he describes as both 'masculine and sartorial' featuring a five piece collection full of vibrant colored stripes in the form of pullovers, t-shirts shorts and a pair of wool contrast denim shorts. He quoted his grandfather as his style icon.

Next on the list is Astrid Andersen who draws on the way a man looks, smells, talks and dresses for her high-end sport inspired collection. Bursting with 'attitude', Andersen takes a variety of feminine colors and prints and placing a surprisingly masculine finish on her designs.

Swedish designer, and perhaps my favorite out of the bunch, Alex Mattson follows swiftly with edgy 'Matrix' print vests and shirts along with a checked sleeveless overshirt, a baseball shirt, and checked or plain white canvas shorts.

Last but by no means least, is Savile Row trained William Richard Green and my second favorite of the bunch who's bold black and white polka dot shirt, long over-sized ivory shirt, over-sized striped t-shirt and satin jogging bottoms all come from as much British-sourced fabrics as humanly possible. Go on son!

Bright Young Things launched last year in 2011. All the Menswear collections are available to view and purchase via Selfridges' website with the collections being shown in store and windows until January 26.
