Dazed and Confused Celebrates 20 Years

20 years. 7300 days. 240 Covers all on display in Somerset House as British style magazine Dazed and Confused celebrates their Vicennial year in publishing.

The monthly publication began as a fold out poster in 1991 under Jefferson Hack and Rankin taking the name from the Led Zepplin classic track, Dazed and Confused. With its fashion, photography and art content arguably some of the best in the world and content stretching far beyond that of mere fashion, art and literature with a move into political and social issues, D&C quickly became one of the most sought after publications and still is today.

Three rooms showcase the most controversial, inspiring and exciting photo-shoots and Cover work from D&C including pieces by David Sims, Vivienne Westwood, Damien Hirst and Gareth Pugh with the likes of a topless Kate Moss, a fresh-faced and cheeky Jake Gyllenhaal and the fake Michael Jackson shot to name a few.

The exhibit even features a projector styled room dedicated to Alexander McQueen's 1998 shoot dedicated to disability featuring a rang of disabled models in high fashion art shot by Nick Knight. If that isn't enough to grab your attention, the montage hallway featuring covers from the last 20 years should do the trick.

Somerset House press release states,"Dazed & Confused has been a go-to reference for style and culture since its explosive launch in London in 1991...Dazed & Confused represented a new wave in the British press, bringing together figures from an assortment of fields and eras to produce extraordinary interviews and original artwork exclusively for the magazine."

The exhibit is curated by Jefferson Hack and Emma Reeves and will run until January 29. A special 20 year anniversary book published by Rizzoli is also available at Somerset House gift shop and online.
