From the writer of the Truman Show and The Terminal comes Andrew Niccol's futuristic world where the ageing process is cut off at 25 years but don't fret, the world's population has been genetically engineered with a one year failsafe to provide those less fortunate to work for more time. Until that futuristic world finds itself shifted on its axis by one man and the girl he takes hostage of course.
Will Salas (Timberlake) discovers his ideologies are not quite what they seem following a chance encounter with Henry Hamilton (Matt Bomer), a man who has over a century on him who willingly transfers his time in the hopes that Will can do something with it that Henry never could. Live.
And live he does. Taking a visit to the valleys of the rich and long living who earn a decade a day, he catches the eye of Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried) daughter of billionaire 'immortal' Philippe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser) who isn't too fond of the newcomer. Unfortunately, the Weis' aren't the only attention Will attracts as Time Keeper (aka Law Enforcer) Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy) is hot on his tail believing Will to have murdered Henry, stripping him off his century in the process.
What ensues following a little night time skinny dipping courtesy of Timberlake and Seyfried, is an action packed, suspenseful journey with a simple story that no one should be denied the right to life. Its also packed full to the brim of well known actors and actresses (Olivia Wilde and Alex Pettyfer also star) to keep the momentum moving.
Not to mention Will and Sylvia's crime spree serves as both humorous and delightful as their emotional connection begins to flourish as the duo live each day without a minute to spare. Modern day Robin Hood and Maid Marian giving their time to the untimely with the simple yet effective motto 'No one person should have to die so that a select elite can live forever'. Preach.
Moral of the story....time is money. Should you ever need more? Rob a few banks. Failing that just go to see this movie with a bottle of Jack Daniels and take a shot every time somebody mentions the word 'time'. Better still, take two shots every time someone you recognise from something else pops up on screen. Satisfaction guaranteed or your money/time back.
In Time was released in cinemas November 1 and grossed over 12 million dollars in its opening weekend.
