My Week with Marilyn Review

Starring Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe, Simon Curtis' My Week with Marilyn depicts the making of the 1957 film The Prince and The Showgirl (the film before Marilyn's huge success Some Like It Hot) documenting the rocky professional relationship between Monroe and Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Brannagh)and her more romantic relationship with Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne).

Colin Clark narrates his time with Hollywood actress/superstar Marilyn Monroe from his memoir The Prince, The Showgirl and Me, finding himself in the company of Marilyn for an entire week working as assistant on the set of the British film The Prince and The Showgirl. Naturally falling for the stunning American beauty at first glance. Affections that are reciprocated by the blond bombshell to the annoyance of those who control Marilyn's hectic and destructive life. Including her third husband at the time, the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott).

Clark provides some much needed refreshment and solace to the complicated star's chaotic existence taking her away from her Hollywood bubble allowing Marilyn the chance to experience something real and different in the process. A meaningful connection, but sooner or later all fairy-tales must come to an end. Something Marilyn knows all to well.

One of the most beautiful and glamorous women known to mankind, Marilyn Monroe is the perfect role for Williams here, who portrays a realistic Marilyn Monroe effortlessly. Her general demeanor, her voice, her emotional and mental turmoil are all something Williams perfects seamlessly as the price of showbizz rears its ugly head.

Set in Pinewood Studios in 1956, the film was shot on location in London containing a magical score and stunning stylish 1950s attire allowing every single element of a 1950s England to be brought to life all at once. Michelle Williams even lends her sultry vocals for the odd tune or two as an added enchanting bonus.

My Week with Marilyn also stars Harry Potter's English rose Emma Watson as Lucy the wardrobe assistant and Judi Dench in the role of Dame Sybil Thorndike.

My Week with Marilyn is theaters now. Take a look at Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe in the trailer below.
