Last week saw the video for Rihanna's fifth US single from her new album Loud hit the web and with it came a whole bag of controversy. Complaints came flooding in after the reggae inspired track sees the Bajan Beauty shoot a man square in the back of his head. Gruesome stuff. So gruesome in fact the Parent's Television Committee have deemed Rihanna's new single "inexcusable, shock-only, shoot-and-kill theme song."
The S&M singer is of course no stranger to such controversy in relation to her music videos with the likes of 'Rude Boy', 'Russian Roulette' and the sexually charged 'S&M' all coming under fire and major scrutiny as a result of the clips notorious adult themes but in 'Man Down' someone else is under fire...literally. By the end of the video it is shown that the man in question did in fact previously assault the red-haired stunner. Chris Brown anyone?
Rihanna has fought back against the wave of hate towards the video taking to twitter tweeting "U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD. (sic)" (Hide yo kids. Hide yo Wife. Coz Rihanna's shooting erbody out here!) The singer later stated she merely wants girls to be careful in relationships.
The Caribbean influenced track is one of the best songs to come from Loud. Its a shame the video doesn't represent this. A lack of energy, boring scenes/storyline and with RiRi herself looking like she won a fight with a red haired horse and took its hair as a trophy, fails to make the video the Rude Boy 2.0 it should have been.
The song was sent to US radio stations May 3. Rihanna will embark on her fourth headlining tour for Loud later this year. Check out the controversial clip below.
