The Green Lantern Film Review

With Marvel having released two successful cinematic debuts this Spring/Summer in the shape of Norse God Thor and Mutant team-up Prequel X-Men: First Class, its naturally time DC got itself back in the superhero game with its much awaited blockbuster The Green Lantern.

Starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordon, the film revolves around Reynolds finding an alien at a crash site along with an alien ring that chooses Reynolds as its successor allowing him to become a member of the intergalactic peace keepers known as the Green Lantern Corps. Sounds like my average Sunday night to be honest.

What follows is a rather weak chain of events mostly due to the involvement of the less than capable acting of co-star/love interest from Gossip Girl's Blake Lively. Whom I like to call Black Unlively. Why? She makes me feel dead inside and is about as interesting to watch as a rotating carrot. Stick to the Upper East Side S xoxo.

Another reason this so called sci-fi thriller fails is its lack of empathic quality. The audience simply does not become connected to the characters nor do they feel emotionally attached in any shape or form. First human to become a Lantern? Blah. Has to save Earth and has to do so alone? Blah Blah.

The villains, if you can call them that, serve to cause a meek 'oh no' rather than a 'Jesus Christ somebody stop them quick' leaving the entire film to fall short of any real threat.

Rolling Stone gave the Green Lantern one star...I'd just give it one finger. They also stated "Blake Lively is decorative...no more." Continuing "The thought of a sequel to this shamelessly soulless Hollywood product scares me plenty."

I rest my case.

The Green Lantern is out in cinemas worldwide now. Check out the deceitful trailer below.
