Dress Refashion (inspired by Shabby Apple)

I love dresses, I am sure I have mentioned that before. I also LOVE shabby apple dresses. They all are modest yet still stylish. Unfortunately I can not spend $80.00 on a dress, without a good reason. But I can use it for inspiration and attempt to make them myself.

What do you think?

This is what I started out with a navy dress and a t shirt. ( I got this navy dress of the clearance rack last year at Target for $3.00!! I wore it a few times during my pregnancy, and I haven't worn it since)

If you are interested in seeing how I made it, then read on:

The front had a empire waist:

I used a seam ripper and ripped the skirt part of the dress off:

The back was all one piece with shirring:

I cut the back of the skirt off under the shirring:

Then I measured my waist and cut some 2inch black elastic:

I stitched the 2 ends together:

Then I lined and pinned the elastic up with the skirt portion of the dress (right sides together):

I stitched the two together, I made sure to pull the elastic while sewing:

Next, I put the t shirt on inside out and out the skirt on, I determined how high I wanted it and marked my shirt:

Then I cut the access off:

Then I inserted the t-shirt into the skirt (right sides together):

I lined up the edges and pinned and stitched the two together:

Next for the flower part, I used the leftover fabric from the tshirt and cut off one of the seams:

Then I folded the material together and cut one inch strips of the fabric:

Then I cut a large circle out of felt:

I started sewing on the strips of fabric from the middle, like so:

Then going to the edge:

And around and around, ruffling the strips. Once I ran out of the strip, I would start another one:

I kept going until I made this:

Now, I could have sewn this to the shirt, But I decided I wanted to make this a pin so I can use it on other outfits, I glued a pin to the back:

All done:
