I live in a beach town, where many people decorate their homes with such seaside motifs as lighthouses, driftwood, and boating accessories. I prefer more subtle beach-inspired touches, such as a small bowl filled with white pebbles I have gathered on walks, displayed in my bathroom.
The design of the sea urchin shell appeals to me for its sculptural simplicity. The nubby texture and bowl-like form seems soft, despite its true nature, being a hard outer covering meant to protect the vulnerable insides of this elusive sea creature.
