Randomocity: Studio + Sweet Sites

Hello, Snapdragons!*

It has been a busy string of days at apartment #5: artmaking, class going, work working and of course, chaos in the best ways possible. Thusly, this post will be a bit ragtag and short on theme. SO without further ado, bring on the randomocity!



I've been glued to the computer during the evenings working on pieces for my illustration class. And truth be told--I'm struggling! I am a painter, not a mouse clicker. The whole approach feels foreign and clunky to me, but I'm practicing! Here are a few peeks of my early attempts at digital work:





Aaaah ((contented sigh.)) A clean studio, is a happy studio. (If you can call a closet a studio. And I am.) No longer are you a pit for school clutter and paper rubbish, my sweet.



In other artsy fartsy news, if you haven't already checked it out I would highly recommend stopping at this blog for a cup of tea and visual respite. My dear friend and exquisite Chicago photographer, Julie Lynn Ivens has a beautiful collection of works inspired by nature, wild women and other blissings. Plus, she's a total cupcake. Go visit. Really. You're gonna love her.



Whilst I'm plugging, I would also recommend this freakin' juicy gorgeous meditation by Goddess Leonie. I just started it this week and I can't shut up about it. The meditation is elegantly paced and beautifully performed by our favorite Aussie Goddess. Heck--this amazing woman could sing-read me a grocery list and I'd feel euphoric.



I discovered an excellent book snooping about at the library last week wondering where the heck they moved the Conjure and HooDoo selections, Special Topics In Tarot: Tarot & Dream Interpretation by Julie Gillentine. Though I am a total novice to tarot and this book is geared toward more advanced interpreting techniques, I am loving it! Great layout, clear writing, interesting ideas and most importantly it's helping me further familiarize myself with my deck and suggests great, simple ways to integrate tarot into your daily routine. Hooray Books!



Now, I'm off for the weekend to visit my parental units, eat all their food and plug away on a painting assignment. I'm looking forward to a few days of low key lazing about and re-juicing. Wishing all of you a refreshing, rejuvenating weekend!

Full Moon Dream Board: Hell No.

Hello Dumplings!*

It's snowing a powder sugar snow on our fair city today--a day to hibernate, a day to catch up! The semester kicked in with no hesitation and since I've been up to my eyebrows in work and classes. I did stow away for a moment to piece together a dreamboard for the last full Moon, but had to buzz out of town and never had a chance to post it:



I've been thinking about boundaries a lot lately--not in a negative restricting or suffocating way, but in a protective, nurturing and assertive way. Boundaries that keep me, my time, my guts and my energies safe and loved--learning to say "Yes!" to what I want and politely tell things that suck my energies and leave me feeling like a lead raisin to BUGGER OFF. In her book, Women Who Run With the Wolves, Clarissa Estes talks about women suffering from a do-all-miracle-worker complex: that we try to be Everything to Everyone at all hours of the day. She writes that in order to maintain our health and sanity, we need to learn to say no and protect what is ours. I've been practicing--my first order of Boundary business was saying HELL NO to a totally bogus project I was getting sucked into. Not this time! *grinning and washing my hands*



In studio news, I am taking an artist book and art journaling course online. My visual theme for this particular journal is HerSpeak: Voices of Goddess. I'm using women in my life, myth and global goddess traditions as inspiration for contemporary interpretations of Goddess. Here are a few pages from this week's planning and gathering:

Strawberry Moon: Indigo Flow

It’s the Strawberry Moon, my Pretties!
It’s an early June evening ripe for dreaming! It came up so quickly, I almost forgot to wish, so I tossed together a fishy board to celebrate. This full moon, my energies are being poured into finding a new flow, a good flow—my flow. This cycle will be spent refilling my cup, reviving my juices and making friends with my fluidity--Breathe like an Ocean and roll with the motion!
Get back to deep sea dreaming, studying tarot and meditating on Indigo--Surround myself with some sweetness, water droplets--make time to meet Lake Michigan’s waves and let my skins sip until they are Full—I need a drink!


Let the swell and dream fishes take any bits of stuckness, sourness and soreness and sweep it out to sea…

Full Moon Dream Board: Up and At 'EM

The semester is in full mid-term swing and I'm busy making travel preparations for our spring break excursion this weekend! A foggy evening in the midst of total madness--perfect for stealing a moment to whip up a dream board and make a Full Moon wish!

This cycle I am asking the Universe for The Juice: the up-and-at-'em serum! To spring out of bed rested, and ready to make the devil shake and say, "S**t! She's awake!" I am asking to become a Great Slayer of To Do Lists. I'm asking for the TIME and resources to pour into the projects that need my attention. In these next few weeks, I want not only to go with the flow, but be in Love with the flow-- waltz cheek to cheek with the flow-- and make the whole breezy affair look easy. ;) Shall we dance?

Full Moon Dream Board: Healing Wish for Sparky

Goodness, it's DreamBoard time again! The winter weeks seem to be slipping by into spring faster than I had time to notice! A cool foggy day is the perfect time cast a little light out into the cosmos...

This snowy moon DreamBoard was crafted for Healing. In the past few weeks, it has come to my family's attention that someone in our close knit clan is deeply hurting and has been so for a very long time-- demons that had been carefully stored away have been making a racket, no longer willing to tolerate their attic abode. This person has carried this agonizing burden with them secretly for many years and now they wish to break free of it, to heal Mind and Spirit and know life again.

To respect this person's privacy, we'll call them "Sparky".

My full Moon wishing goes out to our dearest Sparky. I'm not a very good sewer, but I know that together we can begin gently stitching and repairing the wounds--not only so you will be as good as new, but better for having survived this. Together we'll calm scars with long walks and even longer breakfasts. May you find deep relief and restful moments to dream beautiful dreams.

May Sparky know that the adage, "kiss it, make it better" is a medical miracle worker which I plan to implement joyously. :)

May you find a goose-down kind of comfort in knowing that the Universe hears you, the blogosphere supports you and that no matter what, your family loves you more than you've ever imagined.

May the darkness be quieted.
May the seams be mended.
May the bruises be salved.
May the fears be rocked to sleep.

Full Moon Dream Board: Focus Pocus!

The Moon is gloriously round in Her fullness and it's time to cast circles and Wish Wishes! This month my Dream Board focuses on Abundance, Opportunities and a little Focus-Pocus! When I say Abundance, I'm not just talking about material abundance--though I wouldn't turn my nose up to a winning lottery ticket. :) This month Abundance means Abundant Joy, Abundance of New Clients, Abundance of Motivation, Abundance of business connections, networking and friendship opportunities. One of my major New Year goals is to get my business off the ground and get my finances in order--finally! I'm not desiring new leather furniture, pretty new threads or fancy booze. I'm shooting for STABILITY. I'm getting the ball rolling by Actively working on stashing away in my savings account, scouting new galleries, sticking to a strict grocery budget and opening my Creative Gravy workshop for enrollment. I'm setting the stage and now Universe-- I need a little boost, please! :)
