Scribbling: Commission Planning

Today was spent scribbling away in the studio as a slow snow fell in the street. I saddled up with my watercolors and began a few preparatory sketches for new commissions. It has been such a scrumptious experience to create personal goddess works for new friends and clients. I must admit that even as recent as several months ago, I never imagined I would be spending my days composing juicy goddess paintings for kindred spirits! It's like a swimming pool full of fresh squeezed lemonade. So refreshing...

In it's finished state this piece will feature a circle of gleeful garden dancers being washed with moonlight. I'm thinking oils will be most appropriate--they are naturally glossy, luminescent and dreamy--the frosting of the paint world. :) I'm also planning to incorporate a handful of metallic embellishments so it flickers and winks in candlelight.

I also began puttzing with prep sketches for a new mural. My client asked me to dream up some "bad ass" fairies to flit around in her tween girls bedrooms. Awesome! This sprite is turning out to be kind of a steam-punk-Tank Girl inspired fairy with a twinge of japanese-Harajuku-mall- rat. While I was doodling I kept grumbing, "This pose is stupid and cartoony, and I can't draw myself while looking at myself in the mirror. I wish I had a model..." Then I had the idea--girls LOVE to play dress up. Why don't I call up my client and ask her if her girls are up for a photo shoot? That way I get the models and proper lighting I need and the girls can star in their own magical mural! As I expected, she jumped on the idea and I am now in the process of setting up a rockin' fantasy shoot. This is going to be wickedly fun! I've photographed lots of people for paintings before, but I've never worked with little ones. Not to mention these kids are not your average younglings--they are in a rag tag glam rock band with a motley crew of other neighborhood youngins. (How bitchin' is that?!) These tikes are TOTAL shredders. I have the feeling it's going to be an adventure. :)

For those of you about to R.O.C.K.--I salute you!~*
