Studded Squids: Upcycle Earrings

Hey Pudding Pops!* It's been craftasmagoria at HerSpeak Headquarters: I'm still slicing up t-shirts and in an effort to use up some of the scraps I made a pair of punk-ass earrings! (I think they look like little squids.) To make them I cut several diamond shapes from the carcass of a pink t-shirt, bedazzled them with metal studs and attached them to an existing pair of broken vintage earrings. Here they are in action:

The fabric curls in wonky directions all on it's own. They weigh nothing and have great movement--perfect funky summer accessories for flea marketing or rock festivals...or some kind of motorbaby lazer tag. :P

Fashion Zombie: Glitter & T-Shirt Murder

Hello Cream Puffs!* Lately I've been playing with fashion--it seems like an under utilized means of making art on the daily. It's all about picking colors and textures, pairing pieces and putting them on display: that's art everyday. And since I am a Polish princess and try to keep to the cheap, garbage has been a go-to resource. These are some of my latest trashy to flashy craft-capades:

Earrings that Tank girl would be proud of: I sliced up a old hell-hole of a striped T-Shirt into teeny tiny strips and attached them to an existing pair of earrings I got from my grandmas house. They weigh nothing and have a lot of great movement! Project total: $FREE .99

More T-Shirt carnage: I cut up an unwearable shirt into one continuous strip, wrapped it up like an extension cord and tied off the end in the back. It's a necklace! It's a scarf! It's Free! It's kinda awesome. :)

I love cheap gaudy jewelry. But since it's cheap it has the tendency to fall apart if you even look at it the wrong way. This ring made it through one wear before the stone fell out--so I revived it with a little glue and GLITTER! Yes, my pretty, LIVE!!

What kind of couture mayhem are you up to these days? Have a favorite cheap piece that you love to death? Plans to make something sweet as pie?

Princess of Pentacles: Opportunities

Today Lake Michigan was sparkling and the breeze was full of buzz! It was energizing to walk the lake front with no mittens and no fear of loosing fingers to frostbite. I've just returned from a reference photo shoot which went incredibly well--the girls I'm muraling for are hilarious! I'm taking their portraits and transforming them into post apocalyptic pixies. These kids are punk rock--one of them requested both a tiara and a machine gun. LOVE IT. Tank Girl Forever! But the weather and the girls only contributed to other giddiness...

Since receiving my tarot deck I've been familiarizing myself with it by drawing a card every morning. Today I drew the Prince of Pentacles. He represents messages for business opportunities and expansion. So how thrilled was I when I schlepped over to my inbox with my coffee to see a nice BIG sale, a response for my workshop classroom rental AND the opportunity of a life time?? I've been asked to serve as the secretary for WARN (Womens Artist Resource Network). It's a brand-spankin'-new organization in Milwaukee designed to provide networking services, high profile show opportunities and create support systems for working female artists and the next generation of creative women in the city. Holy Moly!

[Insert Snoopy Dance Here]

I'm electrified and TERRIFIED: I'm 20 years old, I know s*** about s***, and am selling cupcake paintings out of my apartment like a gypsy. I haven't even graduated yet!! You really want me to help you build this thing? I'm In!!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to explode.

Grow little Wish, Grow!!~*
