X-Factor Live Shows Week One: The Elimination

Whitney Houston's cocaine dabbling. Britney Spears' head-shaving meltdown. Madonna's addiction to yoga. All sure fire hints that life in the music industry can be a bitch and last night, four X-Factor hopefuls learned the hard way that fame comes at a price as judges Gary, Louis, Tulisa and Kelly all said their goodbyes to a single act from each of their categories.

Not surprisingly, Two Shoes from the Groups and 16 year old powerhouse vocalist Amelia representing the Girls were chosen to leave the competition by emotional wrecks Tulisa and Kelly. Two Shoes took it on the chin. Amelia...not so chin-like. (I'd cry too if they had totally ruined my image and made me sing a song in a rock style genre).

Meanwhile throwing a curveball into the mix, laughable excuse for a judge Louis Walsh sent home soldier Jonjo, opting to save the ridiculus Jonny stating his likability to the general public as his reason for saving the singer. Big twist should have been sending the Westlife and Boyzone creator home and his entire category for that matter.

Gary also needs his head checked for cutting Liverpool talent James Michael from the line-up. He sings. He plays guitar. He looks great in a trilby. Whilst young loverat Frankie Cocoza looks like a washed up younger version of Russell Brand. You should have had a little patience Gary, given the right songs James could have ruled the world and relighted a lot of people's fires. (Too many Take That references?)

In an attempt to deter from the general cruel twist that saw four young would-be-stars dreams shattered, the rest of the show was filled by a rather dull performance by last year's reigning champ Matt Cardle. Singing new Gary Barlow penned 'Run For Your Life', Matt will no doubt be back to his painting and decorating gig in not time at all. (Much prefered his acoustic album track debuted over on ITV2's X-tra Factor). Oh and Cee Lo Green dropped by a for a little mix of his hits...thank God.

The final 12 contestants including fan favs Marcus, Craig, Mischa B and the Rhythmix all perform next week for the first official public vote. The X-Factor airs Saturdays and Sundays on ITV1 with its sister show The Xtra Factor following immediately after over on ITV2.
