Turn your child's summer t-shirts into fall and winter dresses!
(keep in mind that I am not a professional seamstress, I kind of figure it out as I go)
So if you want to see how I made the dress, keep reading :)
First you need a old t shirt, some knit fabric (about half a yard) and some elastic
(my daughter is a size 4T, so you would need to adjust this to fit your child)
OK lets get started.
Take your t-shirt and put it on your child, mark where you want the dress to start
Add 1/2 a inch to that and cut the rest off:
Next cut your knit, I cut mine 36X17
Fold in half and pin the sides
Sew the two edges together
Now measure your child, and add 1/2 inch to that and cut your elastic
Sew the edges of the elastic together
Pin the elastic to the skirt portion (remember to put the right sides together)
Line the two seams together
I made a pleat in the front
Sew the skirt to the elastic, stretch the elastic as you go
This is what you should have now
Now insert the t-shirt into the skirt portion (right sides together)
Sew the skirt to the t-shirt
This is what you should have now
Next I made 3/4 sleeves
So I cut two squares that were 7X7
If you want full sleeves, then make your longer
Fold in half and sew the edges together
Turn to the right side
Insert the sleeve tube into the sleeve (right sides together) and stitch together
I did not finish the edges since knit does not fray
Then I attached my label to the back
DONE!
