Brit sensation and phenomenal vocalist Jessie J has landed an esteemed position on the UK incarnation of hit American NBC talent show The Voice as the first confirmed vocal coach (aka judge/mentor).
Guess the head honchos of BBC caught the Do It Like a Dude singer's stint on the X-Factor last weekend as Jessie took to the airwaves this morning announcing her good news on the Chris Moyles' show on Radio 1.
The smash hit show, which focuses on vocal ability rather than on first impressions of how a contestant looks, was picked up by the BBC after winning the rights in June. Much like the X-Factor and its various stages of auditions, bootcamp, judges houses and then the live finals, The Voice contains three phases.
The blind audition, where the coaches like Jessie J will choose which contestants they want on their team. But what if two or more coaches want the same contestant? Well then its simple. The contestant chooses their coach.
The Battle Phase, in which coaches shape their teams into the stars they know they can become with two members of one team singing the same song leaving the coaches to decide who advances to the next step in the competition.
Live Shows. Successful contestants perform live each week in front of a televised audience who will then be given the chance to decide who goes through and who goes home empty handed. Once coaches have one remaining contestant under their wing, the show goes head to head in a live final.
Bet Simon Cowell's in an uproar he didn't snap this one up...a talent show he doesn't control on tv? Must be losing his touch and possibly his hold on Cheryl Cole who is has been rumoured to be in line to receive a judging role. (Its The Voice...let's just remind people of that little detail.) Adele and Lenny Kravitz are two other names being thrown around right now and with Adele and Jessie being school friends we bet the chemistry/rivalry would be astounding.
The Voice was created by John de Mol. Season Two is set to air in the US with judges Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton all returning for another series as the show's US coaches in February 2012. The UK version is set to premiere in 2012 around Spring time on BBC One and will air on Saturday nights.
Take a look at Christina Aguilera and her team taking on her hit 'Lady Marmalade' below. Wow.
