Mr Popper's Penguins starring comedic annoyance Jim Carrey as Mr. Popper, a quick tongued businessman who has little to no relationship with his estranged wife and kids finds himself in a tough spot when his recently deceased father (whom Popper Jnr also had little to no contact due to Popper Senior's travelling exploratory nature) sends him a parting gift...or six.
These six parting gifts are of course some rather characteristic cgi'd penguins each with an individual personality branding them Captain, Lovey, Bitey, Stinky, Loudy and Nimrod. All of which bring chaos to Popper's money making life but its not long before the stock market oreintated man finds himself melting to the sound of flippers as he begins to build bridges with both his two children and the woman he still loves...their mother. Go Popper!
The film scratches the surface of underlining just how much our everyday lives confine our dreams from becoming our reality but more importantly emphasises that family is what really counts..oh and relationships with our fathers are an integral component too. Other than that its a fun for all feel-good film that has six penguins...what more could you ask for...P.S. Jim Carrey isn't a complete idiot for once! About time!
USA Today reviewed "Mr. Popper's Penguins is predictable, but well-intentioned fun." whilst Washington Post "Jim Carrey outshines even the cute penguins in this new family flick."
Mr Popper's Penguins hit UK cinemas August 5 and is directed by Mean Girls' Mark Waters.
