Young. Fresh. Crisp and clean. These are the words best used to describe youth orientated Belfast based store Yoke. Housing both British and European designers alike with impeccable taste. My eyes saw stars when a red quilted Barbour jacket hit the runway in the closing half of Belfast Fashionweek's launch night showcasing Designer Boutiques' Spring/Summer 2012 collections.
The stars of course were incorporated into the lining of the jacket as Yoke presented an Americana look and feel. With stripes, tweed, nautical vests and an overall American Apparel emphasis. I even spotted a pair of military green wellington boots to top it off. A mixture of British and American heritage ticks all the boxes for my personal preferences.
Then came Stella & Dot by independent stylist Grainne Maskey. Simplistic minimal black clothing paired with powerful statement jewellery. Gold cuffs, pearl necklaces, ocean green medallions and matching earrings. All displayed to the backdrop of George Michael's 'Faith'. The remix.
Next-up, Logans. George Michael done and dusted. 'Shark in the Water' by the Noisettes as its replacement. Pale blues, peach printed denims and equally exciting star printed navy denim (I have a thing about star prints). The maxi dress highlights came in the form of electric pink patterned maxi and an interesting sun yellow and burnt orange contrasting piece proving to be the favourites on display.
Blush arrived taking on a Paloma Faith influence with sleek, body-conned numbers boasting a hint of 80s chic. Exquisite weddings gowns followed shortly after. Worthy of any Middleton marriage ceremony. One even featured a stunning Egyptian beaded and embroidered collar. Cleopatra eat your heart out.
Sadly all good things must come to an end as the final collection of the night made its way down the pink glittered runway.
Jourdan's paisley prints in blue, white and gold. Mirrored cocktail dresses. Swarvoski jeweled jackets. More Voguesque sun hats and 80s inspirations than Anna Wintour can shake her fine-tuned fashion editorial bible at. The perfect ending to a glam packed and atmospheric opening night.
