"This is great. We've just finished watching Sex In The City."Opening words by one glamorous attendee sitting a mere row in front as Belfast Fashion Week kicked off its 13th season in its current 8 year run last night at the Europa hotel.
As I turn my head around the fashion forward bunch, I almost expect to hear a certain Carrie Bradshaw begin her insightful narration as the glow of BFW's pastel pink and silver glitter catwalk captured the attention of every fashionista and fashion-Mr going. Not to mention the complimentary West Coast Coolers doing the rounds. Definitely an opening night Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda and Carrie would be proud of. Then came the clothes.
My four P's never failing to serve me. Print. Pattern. Peplum and of course Pastel as the best of Belfast's Designer Boutiques Spring/Summer 2012 looks took to the Catwalk.
First up was the Outlet. Displaying pieces from Armani and L.K. Bennett in a variety of nudes, ivories, reds and metallics. Sunglasses being the on-going theme in the accessories department with Daniel Footwear supplying the crucial heels. Favourite look: The Metallic Trenchcoat. Is it wrong to say I now want one for myself? Men can wear silver trenchcoats right?
Then came Candy Plum. Pastels, embellishments, prints, patterns and sequins were prominent showcasing a slightly more casual approach. Pale blue and canary yellow being the stand-out colours with a mixture of champagne knitwear and wool blends to top it off. Sandy dunes are a bit cold this side of the Atlantic after-all.
Up next. Natoria. Hippy-beach with a hint of boho-chic best describes this Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Simple whites, soft creams and a calming beige led the runway channeling D&G in the Summer styling front. Fitting in perfectly with the modern hedonistic trend of eloquent minimalism.
What about the bloody dresses?! Don't fret. The evening gowns and flirtatious frocks were delivered right on cue. Courtesy of Diamond Dolls. It was a little hit and miss between the dresses unfortunately. Some failed to fit their models up top. However the silver, black floral gown, kaki and bronze ruffle bottom mini dress and the petal black and cream cocktail dress featuring a ceramic stoned belt detail were outstanding. Refreshing and innovative. Generally fantastic.
