I've been craving calm lately. Between the crowded busses and the ever-growing stack of term papers I need some mildness, some smoothness. I wanted to make something serene. I like to imagine that she is pastoral and collected where ever she is, tucked away in her garden humming something sweet...

Oil Pastel Pastoral: New Work
My fingers were tingly today, so I went to work on a warm up piece. Just something to get rid of the antsy tinglies and collect myself before the week begins. I've been planning a few large long term pieces that I can't wait to tackle, but they'll have to wait until winter break. I am repeatedly being told in class that "pattern is wrong...", so this piece is for you proffessor--I put on my patterning pants and went to it! There is something meditative, delicious and satisfying about oil pastels that makes working with them something like finger painting with warm chocolate.
