H&M Creates Design Award

No strangers when it comes to design collaborations, Global high-street retailer H&M have launched their very own Student Design Award.

H&M's have announced the establishment of a Design Award set to become an annual award with 14 BA graduates from across Northern Europe from top design colleges all competing to win over a panel of judges and then the general public. The public will then have a chance to vote for their favorite collection via H&M's website. The public will also be able to watch the show as it is streamed live on February 1 as the winning designer's collection is given a place on the catwalk at Stockholm’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. A lump sum of 50,000 euros will be presented as an added bonus with selected pieces from the winning collection also being distributed throughout various H&M stores.

H&M's press release states "H&M is proud to announce the inauguration of the H&M Design Award. It’s a new prize that brings together graduates from major design colleges around Europe to encourage their future fashion careers, as well as to inspire the upcoming generations of designers."

H&M Head of Design, Ann-Sofie Johansson stated “I’m very excited about the H&M Design Award. It´s our first ever prize for new young designers, and it’s been such an inspiring experience to meet these talented graduates, to hear the vision behind their collections and to see the final result. With the award I hope we encourage young designers around the world to believe in themselves and their creativity. I can’t wait to share the experience with everyone on-line.”
